dissapointing: OSX 10.7
Well, I recently bought a macbook pro and I have a bad feeling it is going to be returned – the first computer I’ve ever done so with.
The problem is the OS – OSX 10.7, which apparently is unable to run *any* of the core applications that I use my macbook for. No vmware fusion (at least not without a expensive upgrade), no Cisco VPN client (and the native VPN software is totally unable to communicate with my VPN concentrator), and no Flex Builder (again, at least without a *very* expensive upgrade).
So, my first plan of attack is to take it to the apple store and ask for a downgrade. If that doesn’t work out, I will be returning it and shopping the used market for something with 10.6.

You should be able to get vmware cheaper with a new laptop. Which cisco vpn client are you having an issue with? AnyConnect works great. Do you meet any of the student requirements? You can sign up for most community colleges for free nowadays.

well, a $40 update got vmware fusion working, which means that I can use the windows version of flex builder in fusion (though to be honest, I’ll probably continue to use flex on my old laptop as I like the command line svn)
I’m also trying the 60 day trial of the $499 Flex Builder 4.5. Maybe if I really like it I will pay for it.
Still no VPN solution. Going to a PIX so AnyConnect isn’t a option, and the inbuilt VPN client just plain doesn’t work as far as I can tell. Gets to level 1 negotiation and then gives up.

Ultimately, I like OSX 10.7. We’ll see how I feel after I try to get DP and Reason and Ivory to run under it, though. 😉
