Christianity .. part 3
Kayti has challenged me to find where in the bible it says that those who are not Christians are damned – and to discover whether it was the words of Jesus, or the words of others.
I will conduct my own search.. (using e-sword, which is, by the way, a free and nifty way to peruse the bible in all kinds of handy ways, including symbol numbers for the original Hebrew and Aramiac (sp?) words, a compare mode for looking at multiple translations side by side) but if anyone happens to know addresses – or addresses of any particular bits I should look at in general.. please comment.

Well, John 3:16-18 makes it pretty clear… though it’s not the words of Jesus, it is in the Gospel
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.
As for what Jesus said… he basically says that if you ever sinned your not getting in to heaven with out him… too lasy to look up all the verses

So, apparently My last write up went away.. not sure why…
anyways… rather then write it all up again… I’ll summarize
John 3:18 pretty clearly says that if you don’t believe your condemned….
I don’t think Jesus ever directly stated that if you don’t believe in me your going to hell… rather, I’m pretty sure Jesus said:
a> you can’t get into heaven if you ever sinned
b> we all sinners
c> sinners are condemned without me
If you want a real challenge, try to work out the true requirements to get into heaven…. (the below links have verses taken out of context so some research is required).. but none the less they highlight one of thee greatest differences between protestant churches. What does it take to be “saved”?
Is it really faith alone?

How are people judged?

Well I made it to page 3, didn’t see anyone hot – that’s about as far as I can get with my ADD raging out of control.

oh yah and about being saved. aside even from getting all the facts straight, ’cause lets face it who really knows what all that originally meant when it was first written – “THEY” (the religious) say and isn’t that enough? I mean it’s what they believe that’s ultimately the problem not what is written. What’s so bad about that is that what they believe is based on what they’ve been told, who knows how many variations of stories and beliefs removed from the words in the book. Even if they did read the thing there’s no telling what interpretation they may come up with and I think interpretation has always been a major issue completely aside from translation.
As Absurd Minds said… “a lot of words in a book never brough them closer to god”

What I asked was where Jesus says anyone who doesn’t believe will suffer eternal torment. I only think the above applies if you consider not spending time with God to be torment. *sigh* It’s so hard to track down all the places one has been misquoted and fix them all, and then once you edo, it’s too late for everybody who has already read the page and will never read the retraction.
